District 5 Governor’s Bulletin September 2020

Dear Sisters,

On behalf of the Daughters of Penelope District 5 Lodge we welcome you back to a new year!! We hope you are all well and made the best out of this summer. As we continue to practice social distancing, the remainder of 2020 for District 5 Lodge will continue to be virtual. Please remember that the Lodge is here to assist you, should you have any questions or concerns please contact your District Lodge Liaison Officer or myself.

Further, please remember that the District Governor’s Bulletin is meant to be shared with all of your chapter members. So please remember to forward it on to them.

Per Capita and Reinstatements

At the Virtual DOP Awards this past July District 5 was awarded the “Largest District” with 524 paid members. As of August 30, 2020, 436 members are listed as paid. It is important to continue to collect and send per capita payment to Headquarters. As well, now is the time to start working on reinstatements. The reinstatement fee is waived for the month of November, payment must be sent to HQ’s by November 30th.

Chapter Election Form

If your chapter has not yet sent in a Chapter Election Form to Headquarters, the District Secretary and myself please do it as soon as possible. It is a fillable form and may be emailed. It does not matter if your board stayed the same you still must submit a form. (Form attached).

An emailable District Directory will be available as soon as all chapters send in their Chapter Election Form.

Grand Liaison to District 5

I am pleased to announce that Margaret Dritsas, Grand Governor Zone V who hails from Ottawa, Canada will be the Grand Liaison to District 5 this year.

District Virtual Scavenger Hunt

In keeping with the spirit of connecting with each other, the District Lodge has come up with a fun way to interact with some of the chapter members. As well, we all know that District 5 Daughters of Penelope thrive on a little bit of friendly competition!!!

Each District Lodge Officer has compiled two Scavenger Hunt lists with 10 items that can be found in their home. Each Chapter will be given a different list.

All who participate must have the capability of participating by Zoom with video as this is a visual game.

Since chapter size ranges from 10 to 100, we are asking each chapter to select no more than 10 sisters to participate in the scavenger hunt at one time. There will be two different scavenger hunts. One in the month of October and one in the month of November so your chapter may choose different people for each month. In the month of December, we will hold a scavenger hunt for all Chapter Presidents. However, if the President wishes to partake in the other scavenger hunts that is allowable.

The Lodge and the chapter participants will be on the designated Zoom meeting. Participants should have a pen and paper handy as they will be given the list verbally.

When the District Governor says “Go” you will have 5 minutes to find as many of the 10 items in your home as you can and present them to the District Lodge. The first person to complete the list or if time has elapsed the person who found the most is the winner and will receive a prize. If there is a tie, the person who can guess which District Lodge Officer compiled the list is the winner.

Should we have leftover prizes, we will consider do another Scavenger Hunt in December for all of the chapter winners and/or possibly the Past District Governors.

Please select your chapter participants for the month of October by Friday, October 16th and supply District Governor Antoinette with their name and email address so that a Zoom invite may be sent to them. Should no one from your chapter be willing to participate please inform Antoinette, DG. Due date for November Scavenger Hunt participants is November Friday, November 6th.

Your Chapter President has the schedule for the Scavenger Hunt

Each and every one of you have many talents and your contributions to your chapter is what makes District 5 great!!!

Keep up the good works of our beloved organization, and hopefully soon we will be able to see each other in person.

Yours in Theta Pi,

Antoinette, DG
